About
this blog is no longer being updated. 10/2009
The title of this blog was inspired by the song, “The Littlest Birds” by The Be Good Tanyas, which is a song about wandering, and how even the “littlest birds sing the prettiest songs.”
And beyond that:
The Littlest Bird is a blog devoted to Holistic Human Ecology, i.e. all levels of human wellness… because I think it’s important and its gone missing from most of our modern American lives; I don’t think we actually know what it means to be Here.
The common definition of Human Ecology describes it as an “academic discipline that deals with the relationship between humans and their natural, social and created environments. Human ecology investigates how humans and human societies interact with nature and with their environment.” Admittedly, this is rather limiting. So. to clarify: I choose to discuss those things, which inspire a full Human Experience. For me and the LB, these happen to include: artistry and crafts, ethics, nourishing all levels of the body & spirit, rebuilding a relationship with the natural world, those things that are effusive, illusive and sacred … all intersections there between. The LB also cultivates a wide, tender place for Consciousness Studies; I will defend the importance of non-dogmatic spiritualities, imagination and mythology with my last breath.
The LB also likes to practice the art of being a “writer” and “imagineer”; so, one shouldn’t be surprised if one finds poetry or short story/novella excerpts gallivanting through the woodsier parts of these pages. Likewise, one may find soliloquies on the landscape or an exegesis of sacred scripture and ecology-based (read: holistic) education-reform theory.
I have become convinced that myth, magic & wonder are essential to living a well-full life, as well as long easy hikes, river trips, x-country skiing, yoga, learning to be in the body responsibly, reading good books, being compassionate, painting, cooking and creating as a human rule; and because of this the LB is here to remember, recollect, record, and reconnect with what it means to be whole, holy & human. That is, to remember that life is lovely, to go outside, to be in the world, to be in nature. To not hurry through life & miss the whole point.
Please feel welcome to say hello, leave a thought, share an idea.
Much Love. xo LB
